There has been a big growth in the new B-Schools that have come up in the major educational centers and metro cities. Unlike the dull University college campuses, these college look very good with nice gardens and aesthetic college campuses.
Parents And Students Overate Career Prospects With Tier 2 B-Schools
Many parents and students believe that the more expensive and fancier the college the better will be the studies, the placements and after the degree the graduate will get high CTC job. With this wrong perception they make wrong choice and will join in some fancy Tier 2 B-School. Especially for those who come from middle class families with a wrong expectation that studying in such institutions will change their fortune and they take huge study loans.
Due to the large number of seats available, high fees and many better alternatives available – the best students don’t join here. Students who join here are a bit lower in IQ, aptitude and work ethic but with an ability to afford these fees either by their parents or via student loans. Due to weaker ability of students to cope with academic vigor, these type of colleges obviously cannot maintain same difficult standards of education as better colleges. They don’t give importance to teaching students various technical skills like other Tier 1 B-Schools. At the end of the course, the students from Tier 2 B-Schools don’t acquire any rare skills that will get them a great package.
Tier 2 B-Schools give more importance towards being presentable, to dress well in other words more focus on to train the students to become good salespeople. Another problem is with the students who are a bit introvert they can’t become good sales people nor they would develop any deep technical skills.
Behaviour Of Students From Tier 2 B-Schools
Students from fancy Tier 2 B-schools tend to have a different attitude perception. As these colleges charge hefty amounts of fees so generally rich and well off students join this type of college. Some of them don’t look for placement as their parents have their own business. As they come from comfortable background with affluent parents, they tend to be somewhat casual and many are not capable of determined efforts. Because of their fancy outlook and casual attitude towards the work they are not suitable for high performance highly paid jobs where the work is quite intense. When a middle class student with big student loan has mostly affluent classmates – they may also become a bit casual about their studies.
These students from Tier2 B-schools live in a bubble, many times don’t have practical outlook and they will be think in ways that are not sensible or balanced. So unlike the Tier 1 B-schools they are not shrewd, practical and have their work ethic. This living in a bubble doesn’t work out in real life corporate world. Many times with this attitude when they join an organization, instead of doing value addition or contributing they will seek high package jobs with low work pressure and require more guidance and continuous follow-ups to do their work – thereby frustrating their managers who themselves have targets to achieve.
Job Difficulties Due to High Study Loan EMI but Average Salary Package
The students with high amount of study loan will seek a fairly high package because they have spend so much on their studies – their student loan EMI and living expenses add up to big number. Despite their average skills they look for higher compensation as they need to cover their study loan EMI as well as their living expenses.
Sometimes, they wouldn’t be able give 100 percent to learn on their first job. With their high cost structure they are compelled to search for high salary jobs immediately to cover their student loan EMI and living costs rather focusing on building skills and expertise in their first job for a long term career. Due to the burden of study loan EMI they get tense regularly. For all these reasons, they could have serious difficulty doing quality work on their job.
Essential To Assess B-School Graduate Capability and CTC Expectations
For companies before recruiting any students from Tier 2 B-schools should examine the candidate properly. They should assess the competence and capability of the person to perform on the job and more importantly look at the salary expectations of the candidate. The key thing to consider is if the candidate really deserves their expected
CTC package with respect to their abilility to consistently perform
on their job for the entire next year.
SMB’s Are Better-off Avoiding Fancy Tier 2 B-Schools
SMB’s instead of looking for the fancy brand name B-Schools you should
actually look for the students who come from the college who gives
quality education and charges reasonably low er fees for MBA studies.
Such B-Schools not only attract better quality merit students but also have low or no study loan EMI burden.
